Quick Biography
Edwin Covarrubias was born in Torrance, California in 1989 and raised in Norwalk, where books, especially in Spanish, were always welcome in the house. The child of immigrants from Sonora, Mexico, he grew up learning the value of hard work from his father and the importance of never settling from his mother. His love of stories started early. But one moment stands out: as a child, on a drive from Tijuana to Los Angeles, he first heard La Mano Peluda on the radio, real people calling in to share terrifying, live tales. That drive changed everything.
From then on, he was drawn to stories that haunted people. Influences like Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark and Goosebumps helped shape his style: eerie, emotional, and always grounded in the voice of the storyteller. Though he studied aerospace and then industrial engineering at various colleges, writing and storytelling kept calling him back. After selling his own notebooks, working at fast food spots, and taking on odd jobs like tutoring and web design, he started writing short horror fiction and producing it for what would become the podcast Scary Story Podcast. His storytelling quickly gained traction, reaching the #1 spot on Spotify. Today, his work spans across multiple shows, including True Scary Story and Horror Story, blending researched folklore with an emphasis on craft and narrative.
His writing has appeared in anthologies and has been featured by Apple Podcasts as one of their Creators We Love. He’s also been spotlighted by Spotify through curated campaigns and playlists, including the Latino/a-focused “Aquí Siempre” initiative.
He travels while creating stories full-time, believing that paranormal storytelling is still, at its core, storytelling; something meant to live on beyond us.
“Stories become ghosts,” he says, “and those ghosts stay for generations.”
He’s currently working on expanding his shows for Latin American audiences in Spanish, and continues to speak, write, and produce stories. His upcoming debut novel, Brujas, will be published in 2026.
